Overview
Metro’s plan for better transit includes extending E Line services further east. The Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 project is an approximately 9-mile extension of the Metro E Line further east from its current terminus at Pomona Bl and Atlantic Bl in East Los Angeles to the City of Whittier.
Status
The project team is currently advancing engineering work, including potholing, which began in November and will continue through January 2025, as well as geotechnical borings, which are anticipated to start in early 2025. Potholing involves excavating small test holes in the ground to locate underground utilities such as pipes, cables and gas lines. Geotechnical borings involve drilling temporary wells to analyze soil conditions before construction. For more information, please review the active work notices.
The Metro Board of Directors adopted the project’s First/Last Mile (FLM) Plan (“FLM Plan”) in October 2024. The FLM Plan includes a list of projects that improve safety, comfort and access for pedestrians, bicyclists and other wheeled users to the seven project stations. The FLM Plan also includes a summary of community input gathered. To learn more about FLM, access the fact sheet by clicking here.
Next Steps
In coordination with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Metro is planning to begin the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to seek federal funding for the first section of the project to the Greenwood Station in Montebello. Metro anticipates hosting community update meetings in early 2025. This process follows the Metro Board of Directors’ certification of the project’s Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) in May 2024.
