Overview
The Metro K Line Northern Extension (KNE) would fill a gap in Metro’s developing system to connect four major rail lines and six of the highest ridership bus lines in LA County.
Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around with KNE. This project would create an important north-south link by connecting the K Line further north to Mid-City, Miracle Mile, West Hollywood and Hollywood.
KNE will link the Metro C, E, D, and B Lines; and six of the busiest bus lines in LA County. With so many transit connections, regional destinations, and major employment centers in the area, this project can improve access to jobs and essential services across LA County.

Metro began the environmental review process for the KNE project in Spring 2021 to study three major route options: La Brea, Fairfax and San Vicente-Fairfax. Our Spring 2021 video provides a summary of alternatives.
In September 2023 Metro hosted a deep dive into rider benefits and constructability, recording is available.
Per the Measure M Expenditure Plan, this project is slated to begin construction in 2041 and open between 2047-2049. However, exploratory efforts are underway by local partners to make funding available sooner, which could accelerate this schedule.
