Los Angeles County Rail Network Integration Study
Overview
Metro’s Rail Network Integration Study in LA County aims to merge Metro’s transit network with the statewide commuter rail. It seeks to enhance connectivity, focusing on hubs like Van Nuys, Burbank, and Norwalk/Santa Fe stations. Aligned with Metro Vision 2028 and the California State Rail Plan, the study prioritizes seamless travel, benefiting equity and sustainability. Its goal is to streamline infrastructure and implement the State Rail Plan.
Status
Since initiating the study in the Summer of 2021, staff has conducted two rounds of targeted stakeholder briefings to understand network integration needs and priorities better and identify potential connectivity opportunities.
In the Fall of 2023, staff invited Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to convene a focus group for renewed discussions around potential infrastructure investments and operational enhancements that can help better integrate the regional transit network while removing barriers and reducing friction points for existing and future riders. Staff is reviewing feedback from the CBOs engagement process and targeted stakeholder interviews, and the Study team is finalizing design and policy recommendations. The draft study report is anticipated by Spring or Summer 2024.
