Overview
Metro’s plan for better transit includes a new light rail transit (LRT) line to southeast LA County. This project will connect Artesia, Cerritos, Bellflower, Paramount, Downey, South Gate, Cudahy, Bell, Huntington Park, Vernon, unincorporated Florence-Firestone and downtown Los Angeles. Connecting this area to Metro’s rail network will provide alternatives to driving and create more access to opportunity.

Metro Awarded $231 Million for Southeast Gateway Line!
Metro was awarded $231 million by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) from the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP), following a statewide competitive grant application process for Cycle 7, for its Southeast Gateway Line. The Southeast Gateway Line is a light rail line stretching 14.5 miles from the Slauson/ A (Blue) Line Station to the City of Artesia providing a dependable alternative to driving for 2 million people in southeast LA County. In April 2024, Metro’s project received CEQA certification, approving 14.5 miles of new light rail from the Slauson/A Line to Artesia, with nine new stations, five parking facilities, and a maintenance facility in Bellflower. In August, the project earned a federal Record of Decision, enabling funding eligibility, and in October, it received $231 million from CalSTA’s TIRCP program. Additionally, a study is underway to explore alignment options connecting Slauson/A Line to Union Station. Learn more through the interactive StoryMap.
