Metro Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC)
Overview
Metro is committed to safeguarding the transit community by taking a holistic, equitable and welcoming approach to public safety, recognizing that each individual is entitled to a safe, dignified and human experience. The Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) has been established to support Metro in achieving this mission.
About
Metro’s PSAC comprises a diverse group of individuals who regularly ride the system and have professional or personal experience that meaningfully contribute to the committee. Members have expertise in racial justice, equitable transit, social services, homelessness, mental health, accessibility, public safety, and law enforcement. Metro is committed to ensuring that the perspectives of older adults, youth, women, and girls are represented on the committee.
The committee consists of 15 voting community members, three alternate (non-voting) community members, and three ex-officio (non-voting) staff members.
Status
The PSAC voted in June to support the Transit Community Public Safety Department Implementation Plan. Metro plans to establish an in-house Transit Community Public Safety Department (TCPSD) to replace outsourced law enforcement, aiming for better oversight, consistency, cost-efficiency, and community engagement over a five-year transition period. You can read the whole plan here.
