Fares
Whether you ride Metro often or are new to it, we have you covered with the lowest fare possible. Pay with a TAP card, Apple Wallet, TAP app or cash.
Prices
Prices are for a one-way trip on Metro bus and rail and include two hours of free transfers when you pay with a TAP card. Children under age 6 may travel free with a fare-paying adult on bus or rail.

Balance Protection
Register your card, so if your card is lost or stolen you can recover the balance and transfer it to a new card.
Free Transfers on Metro
Get 2 hours of free transfers to other Metro lines with each paid ride on a TAP card. Rides must be completed within 2 hours. Exiting and re-entering a station will be charged as a new ride.
Save with Fare Capping
Pay per ride and earn unlimited rides when you reach a 1-Day or 7-Day Cap.
- Use TAP to transfer from one system to another within 2½ hours from the first tap of your journey. Note, transfers from municipal operators to Metro are subject to additional *transfer fees. Riders transferring from Metro to another municipal operator then back to Metro will be required to pay base fare upon re-entering the Metro system.
How do I transfer between systems?
- Make sure you have Stored Value loaded onto your TAP card before you begin your trip.
- Pay with TAP when you first board the system, then tap again when you transfer to another system.
- Your transfer fare will automatically be deducted from your Stored Value balance upon your second tap.
- *Regular fare transfer fee (Muni to Metro): 50¢
- *Reduced fare transfer fee (Muni to Metro): 25¢
Where to get a TAP Card
Ticket Vending Machines
TAP cards can be purchased at TAP vending machines (TVMs) located at all Metro rail, J and G Line stations.
Retail Partners
TAP is sold at Ralph’s, Northgate Market, Continental Currency and many more stores across L.A.
Customer Care Center
TAP cards can be purchased at Metro Customer Centers.
Fare capping
Fare capping means you never pay more than a certain amount for rides within a specific time.
Once you pay that amount called a “cap” all rides on Metro buses and trains are free.
Metro has 1-Day and 7-Day Caps.
Fare capping works when you pay for rides with a TAP card or Apple Wallet.
