Your Safety, Our Priority.
LA Metro is continually improving safety and cleanliness through partnerships with law enforcement, a customer-focused Transit Ambassador Program, advanced technology like 24/7 camera monitoring and emergency call systems, crisis response teams, and physical design enhancements.
Nothing we are working on is more important than addressing public safety on our Metro system.

We’re making sure Metro is being used for transit. And only transit.
We’ve implemented Tap-to-Exit programs, fare gate improvements, and upgraded designs for shared spaces to ensure Metro remains a space for transit while reducing misuse and enhancing safety.
New Enforcement Strategies
January 2025

Upgrading Public Transit Spaces
We’re working on:
- Keeping train doors closed while waiting
- Keeping elevator doors open while waiting
- Improving cellular service connectivity across multiple lines and stations.

Improved Lighting
We’re implementing:
- Upgraded cameras and improved lighting to enhance monitoring and visibility.
- Station redesigns with consolidated entrances, brighter lighting, and added music to reduce loitering.

Taller Faregates Pilot
We’re working on:
- Piloting different fare gate models that have shown significant improvements in fare compliance at Washington DC and Bay Area.

We’re strengthening partnerships to address societal issues.
Metro didn’t create the crisis of homelessness, untreated mental illness and drug addiction, but we must manage them on our system.
